Growth. This is one of the many things I witnessed firsthand watching our girls JV volleyball team this season.
In the span of a little over 2 months, these girls have shown a willingness to learn and excel in volleyball and as team players. From having tryouts at the very beginning of the school year to just recently ending this past week, they gained the confidence of a true athlete with technique and leadership on the court.
It may have been a rougher start to the season with no winning games, but these girls stayed strong. They held through and pushed themselves beyond their perceived limits.
With their first win against Makua Lani, they got the taste of victory and never let it go. They later went on to beat Kohala, Konawaena, Kealakehe, and Makua Lani once again. The girls practiced mainly on our basketball court, right here at school, facing the constant worry of rain that would make practice virtually impossible. They showed true talent and determination. We would watch videos of previous games and discuss what went wrong and what could be done better next time.
Now, I may be biased as their team manager this year, but out of all the JV teams on the island, I have not seen as much growth and love for volleyball as our own JV girls' volleyball team.
I love seeing how calmly they play and how they recover after an error! The future looks bright for girls volleyball at Parker School!
