As cheesy as it might sound, as a senior I can’t help but look back on all the things I've done, the people I've met, and the memories I have made. In a year I will be leaving all of it for my own adventure, and while the thought brings a very cliché tear to my eye, it always makes me appreciate my life on this island and at this school. I want to make the most of my last year here and I urge you to also make the most out of your time here, whether it is your last year or your first.
To inspire you, here is my senior bucket list (that will probably continue to grow):
Order all the items in the snack shop (not necessarily at one time)
Road trip around the island
Hike to the green sand beach (Papakōlea Beach)
Make and give a lei to everyone who makes my life one to be grateful for
Build a snowman on Mauna Kea
Paddle out at night to see manta rays (Keauhou Bay or Mauna Kea beach)
Dress like a tourist and go to the iconic scenic points around the island
Make a Papale Niu (someone teach me pls and thx)
Hike to the “flume slide”
Eat a meal made entirely of food from this island
Order a malasada from the malasada truck outside of Hapuna and eat it at the beach
Do a day kayak trip along the coast as far as I can go
Surf at Surf Park (outside Kawaihae Harbor)
Watch the sunrise at Laupahoehoe Point and watch the sunset at Hapuna in the same day
Writing this list out has made me truly appreciate all that I have access to just living on the beautiful Big Island. I hope you take the time to do the same (I know it's cheesy, just do it and thank me later)!
Can I add "watch an erupting volcano at night or daybreak"? And "participate in the process of preparing a pig in an imu" - which is to come for you all sooner than you want it to! 😊
