Laynie's Mostly Accurate Prom Preview and Last-minute Recommendations

The prom is right around the corner! Only one week away, this year's prom will be held on March 30th at the Waikoloa Marriott from 6-9 pm. The junior class has been in full planning mode, and they are super excited for everyone to see what they have in store! Riley Todd, one of the junior class presidents, says that prom will be “Literally better than HPA no cap.”

Now, this year's theme is 24k magic to honor the graduating class of 2024. If you are yet

to find an outfit, I have to say, you are running out of time. But never fear! There are plenty of options to stay on theme if you don't already have a plan. The thrift stores have lots of options, and, if you want to be extra fancy, gold glitter and paint can be found at Ace Hardware in town! If you, like myself, are disappointed that the Barbecue prom didn't happen, don't worry! You can still wear your cowboy boots if your heart desires. Just keep in mind that the dress code is formal, so don't show up in total barbecue attire. If you don't want to wear gold, you can still wear whatever colors you would like! Keep it fun, and remember that whatever you wear should be suitable for dancing.

However, prom isn't all dancing. There will be food, and from what I’ve heard, it's going to be delicious! The menu is set, with salads, tofu and eggplant, pasta, mahi mahi, Huli Huli Chicken, and several desserts! Even if you don't plan on dancing, you can still eat your heart out while watching everyone else. In my opinion, the food is the most important part of any good event, and this food promises not to disappoint. I am a bit bummed that it won't be a Grill-Your-Own BBQ night, but this seems good anyways.

Another much-anticipated prom tradition is the announcement of Prom Court, which will take place around halfway through the night. If you didn’t fill out the form that was sent out, too bad. You’ll just have to wait and see who ends up getting selected. The freshmen will have a count and countess, the sophomores will have a duke and duchess, the juniors will have a prince and princess, and the seniors, of course, will have a Prom King and Queen.

Prom is gonna be awesome, and the junior class hopes to see you there!
