Previewing the Upcoming Soccer Season

The winter sports season is in full swing. The junior varsity basketball team played their first game last Wednesday, and the paddling team had their first competition of the season just a couple days ago. Another sport that will soon be starting is soccer with our co-ed varsity team. After soccer returned to Parker School last year for the first time in seven years, the team will return for the second year in a row with both familiar and fresh faces.

After losing seven seniors on the team last season there have been a lot of empty spaces that have had to be filled. Luckily, there have been enough new players to keep the team going, and to make what looks to be a promising squad for the upcoming season. This year’s team will look to follow up last year’s result of making it to the BIIF semifinals and coming within one game of making it to the state championship. Regardless of how this year turns out, there is reason to look forward to future seasons with the influx of younger players. Since there is only one senior on the roster this year, the team should remain fairly intact after this season.

The first game is a home match against Makua Lani on Tuesday, November 29th, before another home game on Friday, December 2nd against CLA, a team Parker managed to beat 4-2 at the end of last season.

Here is the current schedule for Parker soccer games:

11/29 vs Makua Lani

12/2 vs CLA

12/5 @ Kamehameha

12/12 @ Kealakehe

12/14 vs Kea’au

12/17 @ Pahoa

1/3 @ Kohala

1/13 vs Waiakea

1/16 vs HPA

1/18 vs Konawaena

1/20 @ Honoka’a

1/26 vs Hilo

The most important stretch of games for Parker is the week of January 16th-20th. On that Monday they will face HPA–the team that knocked them out of the BIIF tournament last year– before another game on Wednesday against Konawaena, a team who they managed a 6-1 win over last season. Then, on that Friday they will travel to Honoka’a to face the team they knocked out in overtime of the BIIF quarterfinals. If you can make it to any of those games, try to come out and cheer on the Bulls! Home games are at the field just above lower school, so you can walk to them after school is done to catch all the action. We hope to see you there!
